The popular nickname for Hawkeye State is the state of Iowa. The world's first electronic digital computer was built and operated at Iowa State University. Iowa is named after its predecessor, Iowa Territory, which is named after the Iowa River and, ultimately, the ethnonym of the indigenous Ioway people. The first known European explorers to document Iowa were Jacques Marquette and Louis Jolliet, who traveled the Mississippi River in 1673, establishing several indigenous villages on the Iowa side.

Maquoketa Caves State Park

Maquoketa is Iowa's most unique state park. The Park is a popular destination for picnickers and hikers. Maquoketa was originally called Springfield and is the driftless area of Lowa. The Park has been subjected to hundreds of thousands of years of natural, nonglacial erosion. The Park is in the driftless area of Lowa, and this region escaped glaciation in the last ice age, while areas to the east and west were not spared. Most park facilities were constructed from 1932 to 1939 by the Civilian Conservation Corps and the Works Progress Administration.

Shrine of the Grotto of the Redemption

The Grotto of the Redemption is famous for being home to one of the largest collections of precious stones and gems found anywhere. It is the world's most complete artificial collection of minerals, fossils, and shells. The Grotto is a one-seventh-scale replica of the Grotto in Lourdes, France, where the Virgin Mary appeared eighteen times to peasant girl Bernadette Soubirous.

Pappajohn Sculpture Park

The Park is named after John Pappajohn and his wife, Mary Louise Pappajohn, who donated the initial 24 sculptures. The Des Moines Art Centre administers the Park, which contains works by artists such as Louis Bourgeois, Jaume Plensa, Ai Weiwei, and Barry Flanagan. The Papajohn sculpture park was the capstone of the broad redevelopment project revitalizing downtown Des Moines.

Fenelon Place Elevator Company

Fenelon Place Elevator Company is the world's shortest and cheapest railroad, also known as the Fourth Street Elevator.It is recognized on the National Register of Historic Places. The funicular was introduced to the public in 1884, charging 5 cents for each ride. The upper station of the elevator is located at 512 Fenelon Place, while the lower station is located at the western end of Fourth Street.

Eagle Point Park

Eagle Point Park is located in the Midwest. It gives excellent views of Iowa, Illinois, and Wisconsin. The Park is located in Dubuque, Lowa, and it opened in May 1909. The city of Dubuque runs it. The Park crowns Dubuque's park system and provides a spectacular view of Lowa, Illinois, and Wisconsin.
