Michigan is a state located in the Great Lakes region of the upper midwestern United States. Lansing is the capital of Michigan, and the largest city is Detroit. The metropolis of Detroit has one of the largest economies in the country and is one of the most populous. Following the Battle of Lake Erie, the Americans regained Michigan in 1813. They utilized Michigan as a base to begin an invasion of Canada, which ended with the Battle of the Thames. However, the more northern areas of Michigan were held by the British until the peace treaty restored the old boundaries.

Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore
Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore is in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. In 1966, the U.S. Congress designated Pictured Rocks as the first national lakeshore in the United States.It is managed by the National Park Service, which has 22 year-round personnel as of May 2006 and expected 1,313,179 visitors in 2021. Pictured Rocks derives its name from the 13 miles of colorful sandstone cliffs northeast of Munising.
Detroit Institute of Arts
The Detroit Institute of Arts has one of the largest and most significant art collections in the United States. Architects hold high appreciation for the museum building. The original building, designed by Paul Philippe Cret, is flanked by north and south wings, with white marble as the main exterior material for the entire structure. The museum houses 100 galleries displaying art from around the world. The collection of American art at the DIA is one of the most impressive, and visitors to the DIA have ranked the American painting collection third among museums in the United States.
Detroit Zoo
The zoo was the first to feature bar-less habitats and is regarded as an international leader in animal welfare, conservation, and sustainability by the Detroit Zoological Society. The Detroit Zoo opened in 1883 on Michigan and Trumbull Avenues, across from Tiger Stadium. Mackinac Island: Mackinac Island is an island and resort area, covering 4.35 square miles of land in the U.S. Michilimackinac is the name of the island in Odawa, while "Mitchimakinak" in Ojibwemowin means "Great Turtle." Located between the Lower and Upper Peninsulas of the state, it is situated on Lake Huron, near the easternmost point of the Mackinac Straits.

The park is known for its outstanding natural features, including dune formations, forests, beaches, and ancient glacial phenomena. The lakeshore also has several cultural attractions, including the 1871 South Manitou Island Lighthouse, three former Coast Guard posts, and a large rural historic agricultural region.
